The Tunes
Oxford 2008
This year we were displaced from the Winfield Fairgrounds to Oxford Kansas due to flooding of the
Walnut river. We all had a good time at Oxford and many of us would like to return because of the
wonderful setting. On the other hand, it will be nice to get back to the magic of the festival.
Oxford 2008
Friday 09-19-08
1. This first set of the evening is four reels. There is a short
discussion between Sam and Dave on how they managed to get
back to Oxford from the festival in Winfield. It did go on without
camping in the campgrounds as it was still pretty muddy. First
tune is
The Exile of Erin by Anthony Sullivan The Session second
is
Sally Gardens Trad. The Session then comes the Maid Behind
the Bar
Trad. The Session and last The Silver Spire.  Trad. The
Session  MP3 File
2. The Rolling Wave,  MP3 File, Trad, The Session was being
played later on in the  evening as David Munnelly and company
from Ireland showed up to join us for a couple of hours. The
David Munnelly Band has been visiting Carp Camp ever sense
they began coming to Winfield. David, who has been a lot of
places in the world and at all kinds of musical venues says there
just isn't any place like Carp camp.
3. These tunes are played by the David Munnelly Band. It is a
set of four reels: Within a Mile of Dublin, The Glens of Aherlow,
The Nine Points of Roguery and The Galway Rambler.
MP3 Flie
4. Here we have a jig and a reel. Jig name, don't know yet. The
second tune is one of our signature tunes and most probable the
most popular requested tune through out the years...
The
Celebrated Opera Reel
. Trad. with many many names.  David
Munnelly knows it as
Tommy Gunns. MP3 File.
5. Another fast growing all time favorite is going to be Acordian
Crimes
by Andrew Marcus. This tune came to us a few years ago
and is a great tune. Thank to who ever brought the tune to us.
Second tune in this set is
Ichabod's Last Ride by J. Edmunds of
Flapjack
. The Session.
MP3 File.
6. A beautiful Waltz by Larry Unger of Notoirous called Jim and
Judy's Wedding
. MP3 File.  Noroirous will be at Winfield this year
and hopefully at Carp Camp after the shows for some fun and
tunes. Musicians playing here are Hope Lauralyn, and Jim
(Hope's hubby:)
7. New in 2008... Waterbound trad.  Not in the Homework (yet).
This tune has many different sets of
lyrics along with the
instrumental here.
MP3 File.
8. A traditional favorite, The Mason's Apron. The Session.
Second tune in the set is Salvation by Simon Bradley (Scotland)
This is also one of our signature tunes. Mike added the climie
thing which was originally called the Rodney Miller variation (I
think)
MP3 File.
9. The extremely popular and traditional tune Billy in the
Lowground
is one we just never seem to tier of. It's a great tune
to play.
The Session.  Second tune in the set is The Gale by
Susan Conger (1997) Susan is just thrilled to hear this on
carpazon. She told me she never had much hope for it. Well. i
think we took care of that. Susan, you must come see us
someday.
MP3 File.
10. Turkey Knob was written by the Great fiddle player Clark
Kessinger.
Tood Hallawell and Robin Kessinger arranged it in the
key of D. Clark Kesinger was Robin & Dan's great uncle, I think.
He was one of the most famous old-time fiddler's back in the early
1920s!
See Clark here.
The second tune is called Bob Kessinger written and played here
on fiddle by Bob's his son Dan... yes Robin's bro. The last tune
Dan Kessinger was written by the exceptionally talented Mike and
Dayle Black of
The Bean Salad. We are truely blessed to have so
much talent gather in one place.
MP3 File.
Under Contruction for ever... lol
